Description Mr. Osahi [Ozahi] and Daughter and Friend on speedway in Winter of 1931. Cherry blossom trees are to their left, and the Washington Monument is in the background.

From back of photo, handwritten by David Fairchild:
"National Geographic photo.
While Major of Tokyo Mr. Osahi [Ozahi] presented the cherry trees to Mrs. Taft."

David Fairchild was a botanist, horticulturalist, and plant explorer who lived in North Chevy Chase and was the first Director of the Plant Introduction Section of the United States Department of Agriculture.
